Oh joy! Has anyone actually ever wondered what mermaid porn looks like? well in episode 11 of Seto No Hanayome this question has been answered…look on if you are brave enough.
Shocking isn’t it?
With episode 11 watched again i can finally report in. To me this series has yet to step a foot in the wrong direction, which is rather rare nowadays. The comedy that is brought out with each episode is executed with pure skill and utmost care. Why? okey its not that i am complaining or anything but has anyone wondered why a series such as this can survive and potentially do better than other current running comedy/romance types? Take Hayate no Gotoku for example: This is a series has been rated amongst the top current running series famous for it’s comedy bleepings and references and is so far pretty popular with the fans. To back it up it also has an on going manga series which the anime is based from. However, from my point of view it cannot even begin to reach the standard of Seto No Hanayome in terms of comedy and also plot development.
We could argue that Hayate so far has a pretty even balance of comedy as well as plot advancement whereas Seto is mainly focused on the comedy parts. But even so it is evident that what Hayate doing is rather half-assed (or so it seems in this point in time). Unlike Seto, who has a focus to maintain, Hayate is walking on a tight rope between the two genres in which it incorporates with. It seems to me that having a focus will eventually lead to a more successful series (even though Seto is an underrated series if anything compared to Hayate). This is a real shame to waste potential which can be produced from a series such as Hayate but rather at the moment it is forced into doing almost episodic type episodes just to introduce and develop some new characters. As things stand this is a very slow and boring phase in which the series has too pass though but it can be so much more than that, this is something that Seto has managed to pick up.
Even with the lack of character development within the series i can definitely say that Seto isn’t losing to Hayate in any way even if it is a series more focused on bringing out the new characters. This all has to be thanks to the amazing storyline brought out by Seto to compensate for it’s lack of romantic development. So far what we have seen is pure gold and i only hope that things are kept up. As for Hayate, though i admit that it has been a disappointment it still isn’t down for the count yet. The potential is there to produce a more serious romance plot but to me i still prefer the Seto style.
So! my thoughts for Seto No Hanayome episode 11:
While it doesn’t beat the terminator episode by any means (though i don’t anything else can ever can heh) i did liked the content as one of the highlights is shown above. Another has to be San’s dad calling Nagasumi “erosumi-kun” for trying to peek at San (*insert 10 minutes of stitches*). While the plot is going slowly in terms of San/Nagasumi development, as mentioned before, i do believe that their relationship is a lot stronger than what most of us think. Nagasumi has yet to fall for the “indecisive” routine yet which a lot of harem type leads always incur. Again if we take Hayate as an example, he is torn between his feelings for Maria but a more different attachment to Nagi. For Seto we can see that San doesnt have any competition (and i wouldn’t call Luna competition) for Nagasumi. Their relationship is pretty much solid which is why i think i haven’t minded the slow pace development and then lack of a love love date scene so far.
