Saigar Abandoned and Other Unrelated Nonsense

Just a quickie notice for anyone interested, apparently the bloated beast that is the recent Saigar 2008 tournament has finally been put to rest by it’s creator before it could reach any sort of “Conclusion”.  Reasons cited include “Aids” and “Lol Proxies”, but I think what he’s really tired of are all the troll memes and anti-voting going on.  If you’ve been following the tournament at all (I honestly gave up around the semi-finals, but popped back into to see how things were going recently), basically all the characters that could be considered Gar had been ejected by deliberate joke characters like Hosaka from Minami-Ke, Giovanni from Pocket Monsters and Jerimiah Gottwald from Code Geass.  I believe the last straw was Simon from Gurren Lagann (the person I felt deserved to win the tournament) via obvious proxy voting.  You can even see the trend right here:

Yeah it’s been nothing short of a disaster.  On one level it’s satisfying that it is finally over, but depressing because it could have been awesome.  The concept was an excellent answer to the whole Saimoe tournament and was excellent in it’s first year, but just got destroyed this year by 4chan trolls and memeres with no real goal in life other than to ruin any sort of fun that average anime fans might try to have.  I wonder if there is going to be a next year.  Should I even care?

On another unrelated note,  apparently the feed from Animehistory When Anime Past Meets Present has been added to Animeblogger.  This is both good (or is it?) because now we’ll possibly have new readers and bad because it may have opened the door to trolls that this blog has so far been insulated from due to it’s sub-word of mouth level of popularity.  This is potenially going to get very interesting in the coming weeks.

Also expect my Gundam 00 Episode 20 take sometime tomorrow as I have some errands to run right now and want to get in some Stargate SG-1 and Valkyrie profile while I have some time.

F*ck Yeah RAIL TRACER killed Saigar , lawl.
But more seriously , Jeremiah beating Simon was probably , just way to much . Saigar 2008 as failed , let’s hope Saigar 2009 (should there be one ) will be organized much better this time….like , having no contestant who obviously belongs in SaiMoe and should not in Garhalla.

I agree, Simon was really the last straw…
But who know, there might be people out there who really think that Orange is GAR =w=ili

‘Tis a shame to see SaiGAR go. I still hold out hope that it can return in some form, but we’ll have to see.

Also, Hosaka is not entirely a joke character. Granted, he’s not as GAR as Kaiji (if you’ve seen ep. 20 of Kaji, you’ll know that Hosaka’s not even close), but he’s about as GAR as a character in a slice-of-life comedy series can be.

Congratulations guys for being added to the animeblogger feed and I don’t think that too much trolling will occur unless of course you feed them. XD

Well, good luck on your coming weeks.

    >> asically all the characters that could be considered Gar had been ejected by deliberate joke characters like Hosaka from Minami-Ke

Hosaka is legimately GAR. He doesn’t have super powers, ancient martial arts, BURNING COURAGE, awesome speeches, or giant mechs, but he is about as GAR as the ordinary man can be. Now, think about it. Hosaka pissed a lot of people because he is an ordinary man? Or because he became the sword of revenge of those who felt that SaiGAR has become a joke?

SaiGAR has turned into a joke when Raoh lost. It became fairly obvious that tunnelvision syndrome twats has refused to look past “RAR Raoh big horse”, then going for “omg Viral has dreams like Maximus from Gladiator it so GAR”! They never gave Hokuto no Ken a chance, only those who has read the manga or watched the anime can understand what Raoh stand for and how he did it and why it made him GAR; as a consequence, they rightfully felt robbed, insulted and slapped in the face by all newfags. The Raoh fiasco is an example among others.

Actually, this SaiGAR is a repeat of last year saiGAR when it basically turned into /a/ vs /m/.

It got on /a/tards’ nerves when /m/orons looked down on every accomplishments a legitimately GAR non-mech character. So this non mech character stood for his beliefs against all odds? Such argument met scorn and laugh from /m/ folks, but when it is their /m/ candidate who did the same thing, its alllllllllllllriiiight! Same thing when it is awesomely GAR death. What made Master Asia’s death more GAR than Raoh’s? Please tell me. Raoh also fought and died for what he believed, and in the end has expressed NO REGRET. So what made him less GAR than Master Asia? Do you see why it pissed /a/tards and has drawn neutral people’s animosity against and brought out trolls from their caves? Now do you understand why Guts’ victory has brought relief, but also gloating against /m/?

Now let’s move on the true thing, the cancellation of SaiGAR. When Saimoe has gone downhill with all that blatant cheating, did it get cancelled? Did 2002 Football World Cup got cancelled when South Korea blatantly cheated against Spain? Can 4chan be fully blamed for this fiasco when a “girly drama fit” has bought down the competition?

At least, when you organize something, carry it on until the end.

Simon lost, teh hell with that *rolleyes*

Oranji kun is cute and fluffy but compared to Simon, even I feel it is rather unjust (and I haven’t even been following this that much).

    Ah well.

I’m glad we have been added to Animeblogger :)

Suigin Tou has lost to Louise, it did not stop Saimoe 2007. So may I ask why a certain faction must meet some treatment of favor at the point of bringing a competition to tis cancellation just because highly expected favorite ddi not made it? Proxies or not, it just reeks of double standards.

If you feel so strongly about it, anon, you should start your own competition.

No. Otoh, some people should start saimech if they so badly want to prove that their mech pilots are so badass.

You win some, you lose some. Let’s look on the positive side: At least you’re going to get more readers for the blog. Preparations for the trolls can be made along the way.

Anyway, I didn’t think 4chan b**t**ds and trolling were the only things that stopped SaiGAR. Methinks it might actually be a lack of attention from the anime fans. Not sure what I’m talking about? Compare it to SaiMOE. It’s just three letters’ and a gender’s difference.

Oh yeah, to hell with the trollers and anti-voters. Let them burn in anime hell.

  12. 12 RmX February 29, 2008 at 2:53 am

@Owaranai Destiny: SaiGAR’s only in it’s second year. Give it a chance.

Plus we don’t exactly have japan’s anime audience participating in our “western” tourney. No one’s advertised it to them, whereas they’ve advertised SaiMOE to us.

But then again, I don’t really expect otaku to care so much for the concept of GAR anyway.

Suigintou lost to Louise because Rie Kugimiya>Rie Tanaka. Really though I just say that because I like to ruffle Deathie’s feathers.
