Why I Find Rance VI More Enjoyable Than FFXII

There’s more than a few things to be said when I am finding low budget Japanese Eroge Games more interesting than blockbuster titles such as Final Fantasy, but it certainly has been the case.  Recently I’ve been playing a lot of Rance VI ~ The Fall of Zeth and tonight I went to play a couple of hours of Final Fantasy and found to my astonishment that I was having less fun while playing it and feeling a sudden glazing over of the eyes and a desire to be playing Rance.  How does this happen, that I’d rather play an H-RPG game in a different language than a state of the art console RPG in one of my native languages.  It’s a sad reality that I think I want to rationalize, so inside I’m going to be talking about a number of categories including Visuals, Audio, Characterization and Gameplay (Combat mechanics) to try to get to the bottom of this once and for all.  I’m not just going into this cold either as I think I have a pretty good reason what it is I wish I were seeing in Final Fantasy that I am somehow finding in Rance VI.  So without further ado, let’s start the comparing.

Kamen no Maid Guy ~ Episode 4 ~ Pantsu Inspection

*Cough* Klashikari here… Much like for SNH, Deathkillz suddenly forc… i mean “asked nicely” to me to take care of this week’s episode of Kamen no Maid guy.
Ah well, whatever, as I will obviously cover another hillarous episode of Maid Guy!
This week, it will be about pantsu but… not really in the “flashing” way you might expect (unlike a certain pantsu to vampire heh…), the usual “A new Challenger appears !” KoGARashi is again, awesome!

Rocky Balboa (VI) = Good Slice Of Life

No this doesn’t have anything to do with anime, but hear me out folks.  Often I talk about what I really think of when I hear the term “Slice of Life” and often find that few films, anime or other media really live up to my criteria, but as I sit here tonight having just gotten a chance to see the movie Rocky Balboa, I can’t help but have a smile on my face while I think to myself, “This is some good character drama”.

Oh don’t mind me, I’m just an old school anime fan who’s mired in his analysis of shows.  One who attempts to look at the bigger picture to such a degree that he has earned himself the label of drama whore, pathetic and flamer.  In all honesty I would rather be playing some Castlevania right now, but instead I’ve decided to do my part on the whole Code Geass R2 blogging scene tonight instead of 5 or so days from now.  That means no Macross until possibly Wednesday again, but that’s what happens when you have two shows, several games and work competing for my time. 

Space Runaway Ideon A Series That Can’t Make Up It’s Mind

Space Runaway Ideon, a series so ambiguous that it can’t even decide what it’s supposed to be called.  Is it Space Runaway Ideon or Densetsu Kyojin Ideon.   As I finally finished the series tonight, I found that this would be the least of the series problems with ambiguity that would ultimately lead to it being far less well received by me then it could have been.  Join me as I tell the story of my adventure with the Solo Ship crew in trying to figure out just what the hell the overall message of the series was supposed to be.

All Those Theatrics And He Has To Do It Again?  My God Lelouch Is A Perfectionist

Actually, the high school portions only fill a small part of the episode and aren’t really as mind numbing as I would have expected.  (Well actually, seeing as how Code Geass’ writers and Sunrise in general have this Jerry Bruckheimer like ability to turn that which would normally be mundane into something almost always approaching exciting or interesting, I can’t say I expected anything to stray to far into the area of mindless high school harem comedy) Also as I suggested the episode remained completely unchanged despite the leak as would have been the obvious outcome.  The lesson here is never listen to 2ch trolls.  Now with that out of the way, let’s get cracking.

Kure-nai ~ Episode 4 ~ Men don’t hit girls

Well, I expected the worse would have come from the situation set up at the end of episode 3 but surprisingly they didn’t turn out as I expect. Not that it affected my enjoyment however, this series is still by far the best newcomer of this season. But definitely, this week there hasn’t been that much development between Shinkurou and Murasaki though the bond between them is still growing strong.
