Kara no Kyoukai, Movie 1

I confess, before watching this movie I have to admit that I knew absolutely nothing other than it was by Type-Moon and that it is loosely connected to Tsukihime. So coming into this at a blind, I was open to accept whatever Nasu had to throw at the viewer and it was…interesting to say the least.

One thing which I didn’t expect (which I should have actually) was that this movie completely throws the viewer into the deep end and expect you to pick up the theme rather quickly, talk about a steep learning curve.

The Namco Bandai Gashapon Court Case

This is one of those interesting court cases where the onus cannot entirely be put on one party for ensuring that the safety standards of toys are met.  On the one hand Namco Bandai was found culpable for the suffering endured by a 2 year old toddler when he swallowed one of their Gashapon capsules which resulted in permenant brain damage due to lack of oxygen flow, and was ordered to pay the guardians of the child 26 million yen.  Yet on the other hand the capsule size had met the 4 meter self imposed regulations by the industry for choking hazards.   Likewise one could argue that the parents were at fault for not carefully monitoring their child’s activities, as careful attention would have not allowed the Gashapon capsule to get into the toddlers hands and eventually mouth in the first place.

If you are of the type that gets an infinite amount of laughs out of spreading the same one liner that everyone has probably heard a dozen times before you got around to it, do yourself a favour and read what BobServo has to say over on Something Awful about why I now believe the internet meme has replaced the witless pun as the lowest form of humour.  After doing so perhaps you might come to appreciate why I often try hard to come up with jokes and self-coined definitions of my own and am so “uptight” as to not lace my blog articles with overused jokes that were probably never funny (and never will be).  Here’s to good humour and a memeless Animehistory.  Cheers!
