A Bad Sign……

Before we begin, a lament if you will.  A lament for a word that has tragically passed it’s time in our modern internet based society.  A fine word it was, but a word no longer, an unword now is all it shall be.  Used then abused, and ultimately just misused, the life was sucked dry from it’s disastrous meaning.  Fear not though,  for while the meaning hath passed, the word itself remains, though weep I shall for the hollow shell that but remains.  That shell that carries with it but any meaning it wishes as a new age dawns, but empty it remains, begging, hoping, wanting for itself to have but one meaning and no other cast upon it’s name.  Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, I commit thee “Trainwreck” to the graveyard of words, destroyed by the internet and those that would call it home.  May thee find eternal rest with thy brethern in “Epic” “Quality” “Masterpiece” and “Writing”.  Now let us begin.

Another blast from the past, Samurai 7

Here is another blast from the past series I have been meaning to write up after watching, even if it has been a few months since I’ve watched it, most of the thoughts here are taken from my forum post so they are still an accurate depiction of my feelings since then but I must warn you that these thoughts are more “rants from a fanboy” than an unbiased overall series review ^^.
(Plus there will be spoilers ahead, obviously).

To start things off here is my original reaction from when I finished the last episode:

Well what can I say…when it comes to setting up scenes where you become overwhelmed by emotions when the heros die, then this is one of those series that succeed especially coming out to the final episodes.

The Worlds Longest Eyecatch

Tomino You So Craaaaaaaaaazy!

Yeah they kind of got carried away with this one, but Overman King Gainer isn’t the only show stealing eyecatch, Brain Powerd’s clocks in at around the same length.  Man now I want Tomino to come back and give us a minute long one.

Toshihiko Sahashi (The Copyright Infringer?)

While I do enjoy Toshihiko Sahashi’s work as a composer in series like the Big O and Full Metal Panic, I have to laugh at how he draws his influences sometimes.  The guy comes pretty close to getting himself in hot water with the Big O’s opening themes and even his Full Metal Panic battle theme “Shisshou” sounds similar in structure to the battle theme from Overman King Gainer entitled “Tundra shelling of the Kingdom”.  Below are some of the respective songs where I think he pushes the limits.  Everybody is free to be their own judge and I don’t do this to acuse Sahashi of any wrong doing, but mostly just for the fun of comparing.

Since we are roughly at the mid point of Code Geass R2 as far as we know I thought I’d take a moment to step back and look at where we are in the series by going over the points I feel have been well done as well as those I think have not been handled very well.  Normally I shy away from this type of thing, but lately I’m feeling pressured to stand up and make my less positive views (things I would normally keep to myself until the end of it’s run) on the series known with taunts of fanboy greeting me far more often then I would imagine seeing for a person just arguing a neutral standpoint.  I hope by the end of this people who think I’m a fanatic might see what I am really about.

Code Geass R2 Episode 11 (The Real Romance Of The Three Kingdoms)

You Should Smile A Little, It Would Look Good On You….You Know…For A Change

So a lot of things come to pass in this episode that I had forseen to some degree, but nothing I predicted with regard to the episode itself can compare to the fact that I was dead on when predicting that DarkMirage would use the Shinkirou to make himself look cooler and has in fact started referring to it as the Dark Mirage.  Mindtaking or just kind of obvious, you be the judge, either way you gotta take what you can get in this business.  I myself used Graham Acre a number of times to make myself look cooler. :p Still this pseudo newtype power to predict the behavioural patterns of people I barely even know is getting scary.  And now the episode.
