So unthreatening yet so dangerious (oh and the snow flakes from the site makes it look like a snow dino)
Honestly speaking? This was quite a disappointing and boring episode to watch as hardly anything out of the ordinary “depressive” mood established in the previous episode happened and even what minimal bit of action we got was rather lame. I can clearly see no excitement from watching Hime trying to swat a huge white blob like monster with such a small stick in comparison. The thing must have been a few stories tall and Hime was just useless against it…
Thoughts: So yea…Hime was pretty much pathetic here (no surprises) as usual when it comes to fighting. It really doesn’t seem that she is lacking training in any way but just the simple fact that she sucks at fighting and have no talent for it if she can’t become haxx after all the effort she puts into training. Though some flashbacks for her giving her some depth was welcomed. It also gave her a reason for wearing such a long scarf everytime we see here. Through some past accident she was left with a scar on her neck which was rather horrible. At that time Akina and Gin brought her a scarf to cover up the scar and so she has worn it ever since (hopefully she does wash it occasionally).
As for the other parts of the episode it is revealed that the elders want to destroy the nana-go before it causes more problem but this also means the destruction of the town for some reason. Ironically shota boy, Yuuhi, came to bring some bad news with a rather happy grin on his face. So apparently the youkai forces (whoever they are) have already taken over the nana-go so they are no longer able to destroy it. This is confirmed when the tree starts speed growing again by the end of the episode and everyone is to be evacuated to the elders cabin. With this I no longer see Yuuhi as a person on the side of “good”. It seems like whilst his sister (Nun chan!! <3) wants to save the town, Yuuhi is at a neutral stance who doesn’t really care about the fate of the town as long as the end result is entertaining for him. In other words, he is a sadistic old man.
Then we have Akina who is…useless as ever and still remains as a thorn by my side. His character is so indecisive and that is one of the worst type of characters to watch and because of this I think it is about time he gets bitch slapped for being a wuss, by Kyousuke…with his bracelet off. Even though Hime is useless, at least she tries hard to become a helpful person. The scene with her crying her eyes out on the hospital bed is more than enough proof of her resolve. While she still loves Gin, she knows of the bigger picture whereas Akina is still stuck in his own little world, trying to be carefree and ignoring the doom that is to come.
I find it especially funny when Ao came to support Hime and hinted towards Enjin’s destruction (whereas we know that Akina would no way in hell agree to that). I wonder what the spineless idiot would do next. Probably scream “ENJIN!” while watching his friends getting hurt again.
And yea, the fight in this episode was rather laughable. Just what kind of monster is that? It looks like a cross between a dino teddy and a marshmallow. Seems to be more of them in the preview but this one gets smashed by a street lamp…GO Kyousuke! Show Hime how it’s done. Also I can’t wait to see an awesome fight between him and Shinozuka.
Screen caps and “wise guy” comments:
So an entire town has to go up in flames with the trees? O.o
Not that it makes any sense at all why that is the case
How ever did you come to that conclusion?
Yet again with the mention of the “gods”
Akina trying to find out something useless? Of course it is painful you dim wit
Hime’s resolve…I kind of respect her for that
Cute scene of the day
Whatever happened doesn’t matter, it all matters that she recieved such a nasty scar
Thoughtful couple
“What? I never remember giving out such an order…”
“Ditto”
Hime may have a resolve to get rid of Enjin but she still can’t decided whether to save the town or obey her orders
YES! Thankyou for telling Akina so blatantly that even he should understand it
“Rawr”
Right, I’ll go give the lumberjacks a call
You are weak? Sadly yess…
Blah blah, no longer able to be cut down, blah
Awww…they should take it to a zoo
Fallen princess
She tries hard I give her that, but she has no talent as a fighter
Seems like Nun chan is a land god for the town which makes her brother?
What’s a youkai force -_____-
When nature strikes back, you better run
Sad Hime is sad
Hopefully Akina would learn a thing or two from both of them. Gin can’t be saved if you want to save the town!
Lets see if your words are true
Hell yea Kyousuke! Kick his ass

Well I can get why cutting the giant tree down would mean the end of the town. If only for the obvious reason that giant trees falling all over the place will likely destroy some buildings
. But also that town existed because the tree created protection for youkai. Without it there is no protective barrier and nothing stopping the town from being attacked. Its too obvious a target for people to stay there any more. Better off spreading out and trying to blend into human society. Though that’s obviously not going to work well since if it did people wouldn’t have come to that town in the first place.
Yeah no words about the giant dino. Think its some weird giant lizard that Enjin put together. Kind of like a moronic godzilla. Too bad for Hime that she really can’t do a ton. Other than deflecting artillery fire
.
Akina needs to get it together. Being indecisive is what has caused this. If he just tuned Enjin back when Gin was first attacked this situation would not have deteriorated. It has nothing to do with the power of Hime but the will of the idiot with the tuning power.
Guess Yuuhi is taking the lazy approach. Let the people involved solve their own problems. If they can save the city that’s fine if not well too bad. He’s like the audience except he could do something if he wanted to. Some Land God he’s supposed to be. What’s the point of his existence if he won’t do anything?
Your blog is snowing! (Or else it has a really bad case of dandruff.)
The trees are the links between the youkai and the human world. They are the connection points holding open the pass through area a.k.a. the town. If you destroy the trees, the link between the youkai and the human world will be broken. Yes, the town will be destroyed if the trees come down, but more importantly, so will the link between the worlds.
“Yeah no words about the giant dino. Think its some weird giant lizard that Enjin put together.”
Am I the only one who recognizes the similarity between the current attacking blog and the youkai that Akina’s grandfather tuned during the flashback in episode 2? I think it’s another youkai that was tuned and then returned now that the barrier has weakened. Just as Enjin has done.
“between the current attacking blog”
duh. That should have read “The current attacking blob”, not blog.
“Some Land God he’s supposed to be. What’s the point of his existence if he won’t do anything?”
That’s the problem with Gods in general. In most stories, all they (can) do is watch, whatever happens is up to the pitiful mortals to fixthe problem.
@LKK ~ I think it’s snow D:
Well besides physical damage of the falling trees I don’t see the real problem in closing the gate?
Because of the trees being sealed then it means that no youkai would be filtering through it anyway otherwise it would be no logic in sending Youkais to the other world with tuning if they can just come back. So destroying the trees, closing the gates would neither give nor take anything away from the youkais of the town…right?
There’s a crucial piece of information about the town that was only mentioned once in episode 1, but is mentioned more often in the manga. The town exists because there are youkai in the human world who want to voluntary return to the youkai world. It’s talked about during that long opening statement in the opening of episode 1. The area exists so that youkai could return to their dimension if they became too tired of life in the human world. It’s the only place in Japan where the worlds are connected. The city grew up as youkai who came to the area decided they liked living in a place where nearly half the population was youkai and decided not to be tuned by the Hajiimi family head.
The anime never mentioned it, but Rin came to the city in order to be tuned back to the youkai world. In the manga, we learn that the Youkai Life Center staff talked her into living in the city for a while before she made her final decision. Eventually she decided to stay for real.
In another manga chapter, Kyousuki and Touka wanted to be tuned because of Touka’s unstable power. In the youkai dimension, her powers wouldn’t be unstable. Kyousuki wanted to be tuned as well so that they would be together over there. That’s when we find out how much Akina hates his tuning power. He doesn’t want to tune any youkai at all. He sees tuning as murder and sees himself as a murderer. He hates that he has this ability and kept it hidden from public knowledge for about 2 years, if I remember right. Akina convinced Kyousuki and Touka to remain in the human world by promising to control their powers by other means if they became too much trouble for the city.
Given what I’ve said, maybe you can guess why Hime’s grandmother is no longer in the human world? I’m not sure if Hime knows now that grandmother asked Akina’s grandfather to tune her or not. She certainly didn’t know then. The grandmother’s tuning took place while little Hime slept because grandmother thought Hime would object. Akina knows. He had to watch the ceremony even though he was also a child.
Summing things up, destroying the connection between the youkai and human worlds is perceived by the city’s populace as a bad thing. If the connection is destroyed, the youkai who tire of the human world can’t return to their ancestral homeland.
