I’ve gotta give a huge thumbs up to this To Love Ru doujin Mahjong game I’ve been trying which in many ways is superior to your average arcade game and is also very user friendly and scalable to your skill level.
Most arcade games being made to make money often require you simply to win three times in a row and to avoid losing all your points. That means that winning on points doesn’t really matter and thus half of the game is gone right there. This one you have to win and try to go out with a strong hand to deplete the opponents points and get the scene. Of course you can try winning with garbage hands and scoring 2000 points at a time, but it’ll take you way longer on some of the higher point games.
Also amusing is that the game allows you to buy items if you lose to many times which let you cheat like characters in Saki. My personal favourite is Super Reach which you can use on a reach and makes the next tile always be the one you need, another lets you see the opponents hand, another let’s you stay in the game one more round if you run out of points and still another couple let you actually block a Ron or a Tsumo on the opponent. Of course you don’t have to use these cheat items, but again it gives a player a handicap if they just aren’t all that good at the game.
There’s also a difficulty setting but it doesn’t seem to do much other than handicap the scoring so on lower difficulties you lose less points if you lose a hand and gain a bit more points if you win. Haven’t tried harder and don’t want to. It also let’s you change some of the rules around too. Currently trying to figure out which one makes it so you don’t can actually go out if you have an open hand via Kan, Pon or Chi as declaring it seems like a death sentence to never winning in these games.
By far the best feature though has to be that the game let’s you see what tiles you need to win when you can reach, giving the player a bit of an extra aid to know which is the best setup for a potential Ron or Tsumo.
Very fun and makes me want to try the Saki one now even if it lacks Koromo for whatever reason.

What a coincidence, the Saki one looks exactly the same but only with different characters (and yes, exactly the same from layout to colours).
@deathkillz: Doesn’t surprise me really.
*prepares to avoid gunfire* So what anime is this one from? Looks like Mahou Shojo Lyrical Nanoha. Seriously, I don’t know.
@CCCP: It’s To-Love Ru, a manga by the same guy that did Black Cat.
Where can one find this game? I’ve been searching… lol.
