Lucky Star Episode 12, Kadokawa….Er I Apparently Mean “Comiket” Breakdown Spectacular

And so it begins, Episode 12 of Lucky Star, the halfway point with some interesting and bizarre stuff going down, here we go….

Summary:

At School:

– Beethoven’s Final was not a Kadokawa production, GET OUT OF HERE, you’ve got nothing on Aya Hirano’s music Old Man.

-Kagami transferred the Ide Sweat Drop to Konata, man she does not look happy. I bet right now a thousand viewers wish they were Konata.

-Miyuki’s only purpose at Kadokawaket would be to buy products for Konata, and she almost bought into the thing too. How sad….

At Konata’s

-I think A.F.K botched this scene translation because I have absolutely no idea what either Konata or Kagami are talking about after three viewings. This would be a first.

At the Train Station:

lucky-flat-train.jpg

Damn! Come On Guy’s That Things Flatter Than Konata’s Chest!

-That is one weird looking CG train.

On The Train:

– Tsukasa thinks she’s going to Comiket, but in reality its a distorted version of Comiket called Kadokawaket where all you see is Kadokawa stuff and a surprise gate crasher from Toei.

– I think these arrows are trying to tell me something I could have guessed based off of the characters personalities. Kyoto Animation just became the Kingdom Hearts II Tutorial.

-Tsukasa will do her best to not get kidnapped by lolicons at Kadokawaket.

At Kadokawaket:

More Grease Than A McDonald’s Deep Fryer

-Hey a Haruhi van, I haven’t seen that show referenced in a while.

-Hey it’s Primula, she’s all right in my book.

lucky-lolicons.jpg

It Sure Is Tsukasa, It Sure Is….

-Tsukasa is scared of all the perverted lolicon types lurking around her. I like how the further right you go, the less comfortable the girls look. Konata’s got a dumb grin on her face, Kagami is stoic and Tsukasa is bloody terrified.

-Cue Dramatic Music

lucky-reagan.jpg

My Fellow KyoAnicans, I’ve Made Plans To Outlaw Non-Kadokawa Products Forever. We Begin Bombing In Ten Minutes HAHAHA! Oh Wait… Is This Mic On….Uh Oh…

-The funny thing is I doubt this is some unique plan Konata has cooked up for the Hiiragi’s, from what I’ve heard a merchandise hunting gang is fairly normal to organize at a convention.

-Stray from the red line and YOU GONNA DIE. Or worse some Lolicon will abduct you. Enjoy yourselves girls.

-STAMPEDE! Oh wait it’s just sweaty nerds. Everybody in LS want’s to by the newest Haruhi Posters, you the viewer must do so as well. *Shakes Fist* Doooo It!

lucky-freeza-1.jpg

Who Are You?

-These women all sound familiar, can’t quite put my finger on it though.

-Wow Kagami just bought Hentai.

lucky-freeza-2.jpg

Who? Who? Who?

-There’s that familiar voice again.

lucky-tsukasa-and-lolicon.jpg

The Loli Has Been Kidnapped By Otaku. Are You A Bad Enough Dude To Rescue The Loli?!

-Tsukasa:”I’m so cute and stuff, WAAAH! A CROWD OF LOLICON!” and there she goes carried off, your sacrifice will not be in vain Tsukasa.

-Kagami finds that she may in fact be in the Doujin section. How will she get even with Konata for this. I like how she just can’t help herself with the Yaoi.

lucky-freeza-3.jpg

I Really Wanna Know!

-There’s that voice again…hmmmm.

-Remember everybody if Konata buy’s something it must be good. Too bad this wasn’t the case with these the two would be doujin artists. This scene seems more like a stab at the whole nature of Konata’s pitching for Kadokawa then anything and how some of this shows viewers seem to be falling for it. I love a show that has the fans make love to it and give it their life savings and then stabs them in the back like a crooked whore.

lucky-toei.jpg

She’s Alive And Well. I See Keroro, I see Al. I see Haruhi, Mikuru And Soul Link and WHA?! SOUND THE ALARM A TOEI/SHUEISHA CHARACTER GOT PASE KYOANI’S PRO-KADOKAWA CENSOR!

-Bad cosplaying at it’s finest as Tsukasa emerges from her near abduction. And there’s that voice again.

-I like how despite all the horrible things that have happened to Tsukasa, she feels the need to apologize to Konota in the most awkard scene transition I’ve ever seen.

-Konata made her first Kadokawaket visit at the age of 5. Luckily no lolicon managed to abduct her.

This Shot Combined With The Sudden Jump Cut Literally Scared The Crap Out Of Me

-AHHHH! Oh it’s just another jump cut to an Akira cardboard cutout.

-HOW CAN YOU BE OUT OF HARUHI GOODS HARUHI HARUHI HARUHI HARUHI REFERENCE HARUHI I’M A GOOD LITTLE BOY! BIG STRONG MEN LIKE HARUHI BUY NAGATO PHONE CARD ON SALE NOW! That’s about what I got from the angry man scene.

-I AM ACTUALLY CRAZY AND HOTBLOODED AND VOICED BY SEKI TOMOKAZU AND AS SUCH HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING HERE, BUT REST ASSURED MY PURPOSE WILL BECOME APPARENT IN A MOMENT!

-(Kaioshin here, I literally just felt a lurch in my stomach as a voice was heard that can only mean one thing)…. i am sugita tomokazu here as well, notice my appearance to be phoning in my line with a boring and somewhat sarcastic tone. i guess i really am talentless and have actually been playing myself this whole time in all my roles. i’m a huge jerkoff and feel that it’s the customers fault for not lining up earlier. aren’t i sugita tomokazu a class act.

lucky-satisfying.jpg

lucky-satisfying-2.jpg

These Images Will Forever Be Etched In My Mind As The Greatest Thing That Ever Happened In Lucky Star!

-FOOL! I SEKI TOMOKAZU A TRUE TALENT AM SICK TO DEATH OF YOUR CONSTANT SARCASTIC ATTITUDE AND YOU HAVE FINALLY AFTER BEING GIVEN SO MANY PASSES BEEN DEALT THE PAINFUL BLOW YOUR SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT FOR YOUR TRANSGRESSIONS AGAINST ANIME FANS EVERYWHERE. YOU ARE NOT HOT BLOODED AND PASSIONATE AT ALL! SHIIIIIIINIIIIINGUUUUUUU FIIIIIINGAAAAA!

-please have mercy on me oh great and honorable manly man i have finally realized how worthless i really am.

-SO HOTBLOODED YOUR NOW OWNED!

-oh dear. lame attempt at amuro impression.

-The two then discuss the state of the anime industry as a whole and I agree with both overall. I kind of feel sorry for both actually, even Sugita, I guess you really do have to be cute to sell products and it doesn’t matter if you are a main character. MALE MERCHANDISE DOES NOT SELL!

-To bad the man brings them down by forcing the current industry standards on them. It’s now you the readers job to change this standard if you truly care. I’m actually sort of glad that Seki and Sugita got together to do this and that Kyoto Animation spent so much time on it. Hopefully Sugita learns a life lesson after his lesson in Hot Bloodedness and respect for fans from Seki.

EYECATCH!

At The Hiiragi Shrine?:

-Poor girls are too exhausted to oversee the new years cermonies, hilarity may now ensue.

-Konata and Pops say the best prayer I’ve ever heard. Sorry just give me a moment *Sheds Tear*

-Back. Wow Kono-Pops apparently wants to have a little girl bicker with him over irrelevant stuff.

-Man as usual this third quarter is kind of boring.

-There’s sure a lot of worshippers Konata says. Funny I don’t see Suzumiya Haruhi anywhere…..huh.

-MUHAHAHAHAHAH! Oh wait it’s just Kona taking about her pedo-pops.

At Konata’s:

-Konata is strangely tall in this scene.

lucky-dragonfly.jpg

Ai

-Hey that’s the Dragonfly thing from City Hunter behind Kagami.

freeza.jpg

The Mystery Voice Is Revealed At Last!

-There’s that voice again, this time I’m pretty sure I know who it is.

At School:

-Who’s that?! Oh right Miyuki, the character they never seem to use.

At Konata’s:

Hmmm.. isn’t the last punchline usually the funniest.

EYECATCH!

Lucky Channel: Really boring and pointless this time. Had to get in a completely unnecessary Fumoffu reference though.

Thoughts: This is a rather hard episode to rate. On one hand it stayed on theme this episode, but on the other it had a hard time managing that theme. For the first half, I’m not entirely sure it was necessary to cram as many Haruhi and FMP pushes into one half hour as they did. This is supposed to be Comiket, yet the whole event was dominated by these two shows, which just happen to be KyoAni’s two most popular adaptations to date. Sure there was the one short scene with Alphonse, Keroro and even Nico Robin, but aside from Nico all of the things shown at “Comiket” were from Kadokawa licenses. I’m sure it wouldn’t have killed them to spend less time focusing on why I should buy Haruhi and FMP merchandise and more on Comiket as a whole. To me the planning scenes, Tsukasa’s abduction and Sugita Tomokazu getting dressed down by Seki Tomokazu for the exact reasons why I hate his style so much were the only real highlights of this event. The rest was a bit of a waste. The second half was on theme for new years perfectly, and this is the first time the series has managed to follow through with its themes, and yet nothing really exciting happend in the second half. I think I can afford the episode a 7.5 for a strong effort to do well, but I have to penalize for an inability to use the massive amounts of extra time this episode had compared to the others to do anything but fill it with as many Haruhi and FMP shots as possible. Find new material to plug the holes between the 4Koma bits guys, you can almost tell what came from the Manga and what is new buy how commerical it appears to be.

Rating: Seven And A Half Out Of Ten.

You should give props for them not actually including Akira even though they very thoroughly (sp?) convinced both of us it was coming. I liked this one, and loved the two anime salesmen at the convention, as well as Kagami’s “Want/Do not want” dilemma with the Yaoi. She was probably trying to fight her inner FMP-light-novel-reading Otaku impulses to keep herself from degenerating into Konata’s kind. lol

Samsung understandably built on the Galaxy name and brought out several smartphone
handsets with the Galaxy brand backing them. Such applications come in handy when
you need to keep a track of your budget for the tour.

Since the gift-giving season is here, you might be planning to buy a
    smartphone.
