And so the second episode begins. And looks like our “hero” is having his first date with the lovely Katsura. One would think that any male with some common sense would have at least a vague idea about what is a good idea for a date and what isn’t. Once we see that Makoto is reading some sort of a dating guide where it says that it is good to be late (Not noticing Katsura who has already arrived), you realize that common sense is a phenomenon not present in the being called Itou Makoto, and that you are about to witness a trainwreck of a date.
After finally noticing Katsura and freaking out, the couple proceed with their date. First stop – the book store. A fairly nice move by Makoto, considering that Katsura likes books. Probably not the best idea for a date, but coming from Makoto it is fairly decent. Being the considerate person that he is, he lets Katsura have a look around without bothering her, quietly standing in the corner and doing the most logical thing – browsing through a porno mag.
This certainly earned him a lot of points with Katsura once she came over and took notice.
Next stop – the arcade. First they win some plushies (aw, how cute), and then Makoto proceeds to make an impression by showing his 1337 skillz by playing some fighting games.
Way to go – i am sure that left an impression! Not sure whether the impression was the one he thought it would be, but it was an impression alright. After a dinner where Makoto brought over a large plate of various sweets and cakes (without caring about the fact that Katsura hadn’t even made her pick from the menu yet) and standing up for Katsura when she bumped in to some man (though from the looks of it he was about to take cover himself … good thing that Katsura apologized), it is time for the two to part ways at the train station. Seeing how much of a perfect gentleman he has been today, Makoto certainly thinks he deserves some reward, and he leans towards Katsura in a graceful manner.
Unfortunately for our cavalier the trains door closes, carrying him off and leaving a stunned looking Katsura behind. This sure was an unforgettable experience for Katsura’s first date.
This week we have the OP. It is fairly generic and i preferred the game’s version to this one, but it was not bad. Some nice pictures to go with it.
Zomg, nipples in the OP! I was having some thoughts that they might tone the anime down a bit for the TV version (Although the studio would get torched by fans of the original story in this case, but hey – it was a possibility), but with this addition to the OP i am fairly certain they won’t. Moving along…
^ Setsuna! Deserves a special notice as my favorite School Days character.
^ 3 characters i wouldn’t mind giving a good slap to. *grumbles angrily*
The episode proceeds, and the first thing comes first – Sekai giving Makoto a good lecture about how he has been an ass during the date, which comes as a grand schocku for our hero.
She hands him two movie tickets and tells him to go make up with Katsura… she even tells him that he might get a kiss in the cinema if the mood is right, which gets Makoto’s hopes up. (Yea, smart move – seeing how smart she seems, this was a really dumb thing to say). As Sekai is walking away she walks in to Setsuna, who questions her about the tickets with a stern look – she thinks Sekai wanted to go to the cinema with Makoto herself, but Sekai brushes it of saying she doesn’t have time tomorrow anyway. (Setsuna <3)
Now we get to see Katsura who is taking a bath (meaning some nice fanservice shots), pondering about one question: “Should i really be dating you, Itou-kun?” Yes! A very good question! Listen to your voice of reason and dump him before things are not knee-deep in the mud! *sigh* ye right – we all know that is not going to happen… we do find out the invaluable information that Katsura is very well stacked though.
Time for the second Date! Makoto and Katsura are watching a movie (I am surprised Makoto picked a romance movie, considering there was a zombie movie available as well), and can’t stop drooling over Katsura.
After mulling over some not-so-intelligent thoughts in that bucket of his we call head, Makoto decides to make a second attempt, and makes his gallant approach:
… and gets what he deserves:
After the movie the two sit in a cafe, engulfed by uncomfortable silence. Makoto eventually starts blurting out how this all was Sekai’s idea, the movie-date included. Yes, this is surely going to help your situation. Way to go! Later on the train Katsura says “i am sorry” and quickly dashes out of the train, leaving a crushed Makoto behind.
Next day Sekai keeps calling him an idiot that doesn’t understand anything, and that if he has time to read some dumb dating book he should spend the time trying to understand Katsura herself instead. Intent on making things right Makoto makes his way to Katsura’s classroom, and runs in to one of his old acquaintances – Otome (Harem growth+1; 4 harem members so far), who quickly picks up his crush on Katsura.
Makoto later gets to talk to Katsura, and he is apologizing for his actions, saying he doesn’t want to do anything she wouldn’t like, but looks like Katsura has decided to break up. Makoto tells her he will be waiting in the train station for her, and that he intends to start over and do things right. Later Katsura leaves the school and is about to take the buss home – she is trying to avoid Makoto in the station.
And this would have been the best choice for her, considering what is going to follow soon after … unfortunately we have some one who can’t learn to keep her big mouth shut – Sekai. The two girls do some talking, Sekai pressing the Makoto issue. In the end after some talking and groping she convinces Katsura that Makoto isn’t that bad of a guy, and Katsura rushes towards the station. And so, thanks to her sticking her nose where she shouldn’t Sekai has managed to ignite the love triangle again, where she will end up playing one of the bigger roles herself. This girl seriously needs to figure out what the heck she is trying to achieve here.
It is already dark outside by the time Katsura makes it to the station, but Makoto appears to be there, still waiting for her. After a short exchange ow words Katsura says she also wants to learn more about Makoto, because she is his girlfriend. Then she takes his hand and kisses him.
We also get to see our local stalker watching from the shadows and dropping a can of drink to the ground:
Second episode ended exactly where i had expected it to – Katsura kissing Makoto. Now i wonder where things will go from here, but one thing is sure – it won’t be pretty. Sekai has effectively managed to set the upcoming trainwreck in motion, and all that is left for us is to see where it goes. Seeing the ample amounts of unrestrained fanservice in both the OP and episode makes me think we won’t be getting a toned down version of the story (Obviously i am not expecting explicit sex scenes – i am saying i think they are not going to get removed altogether) … on this notion episode 3-4 should be ones to look towards to, because that is my bet for the first sex scene to take place. After that the relationship trainwreck that is School Days can truly begin!
