Everyone has a right to pursue a happy life.
The difficult part is to be given that right.

Everyone has a right to pursue a happy life.
The difficult part is to fulfill that right.

I too have a right to pursue a happy life.
The difficult part is to work out a compromise for that right.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, Matsuribayashi-hen part6 : Makuake

A new transfer student is introduced to the class, it is Furude Hanyuu. She becomes quickly popular, to the point Rena can’t restrain herself from her Omochikaeri mode.

Mion organizes the usual “question session to the new pupil”. Things go smoothly, until Mion is teasing her, claiming people can ask any question, such like the color of her panties. As result, Satoko defends her, punching Mion in the gut as a retaliation. But Rena takes advantage of it and tries to omochikaeri Hanyuu again.

Rena is restrained on a chair, tied up. Keiichi and Rena discuss a bit about Hanyuu. Rena is quite happy Hanyuu arrived, but she also has a gut that she saw Hanyuu a few times before. Keiichi is puzzled and Rena adds she has a feeling that Hanyuu was always with them, watching them playing around. However, her position made her quite lonely in her corner. This is the reason why Rena is happy that Hanyuu is their friend now. Rika comments how Rena is a very nice person. She also ask them a favor: being kind with Hanyuu. Both club members agree of course. Rena releases herself and try to catch hanyuu again !

After school, everyone is playing but Hanyuu suddenly enters. They are puzzled, and Rena thinks she forgot something. Hanyuu tries to get some help from Rika, but the blue chibiko refuses and she is somewhat “encouraging” the purple moe blob. Hanyuu is then resolute and asks if she can join the afterschool activities club.
Rika congratulates her, while Mion and Keiichi are surprised.

But Hanyuu doesn’t stop there and becomes serious, as she won’t run away and she will do anything to win. It looks like everyone is understanding what she means unconsciously

Mion is announcing the game of the day, old maid. However, she warns Hanyuu that the cards are pretty worn out and some of them (if not all of them) can figure which card it is. Despite this, Hanyuu prepared herself.

After some moments, Hanyuu is obviously losing pretty badly. However, when it is her turn, Mion helped her and Keiichi became the loser, impendingly forced to wear another batsu outfit (optionally, making Rena and Mion “drooling”)

At Tokyo, an investigation cell is dismissed as the case is no longer under their juridiction, upsetting most of the investigators, Akasaka included. They are reorganizing the documents, in a bitter fashion as they could dismantle organizations using misplaced funds. Akasaka believes it is because of this their investigation was terminated, as some corrupted politician must be involved in it. Suddenly, in a notebook, Akasaka notices something about the “Tokyo” organization, involving the Irie clinic and Hinamizawa.

Everyone is going back home, and Keiichi is ranting about his dress as the batsu game. Keiichi is very fustrated by it, while Hanyuu is quite integrated in the group.
Rika and Keiichi discuss alone a bit. Rika thinks Hanyuu is fitting in their group. Keiichi agrees as she only transferred today, but it looks like she was always with them. Rika then confirms she was always with them, which puzzles Keiichi. However, their conversation is cut short as they hear her scream and they check her out

Hanyuu fell and roll some place below. Tomitake and Takano are there as well and they are checking hanyuu up. She is fine, and she apologizes for the trouble, but she got some chill when she sees Takano. Rika introduces them to her, and Hanyuu is completely frozen by the mention of Takano.

Hanyuu and Frederica are discussing at night, and the later has hard time to believe Takano is the mastermind behind this. Hanyuu admits she forgot everything until she saw her face, but she is sure of it, and explains she is behind it along with the yamainu. The “previous Rika” tried all her might to burn her face before being killed, but it didn’t work…
Frederica wonders why Takano would do that, but Hanyuu doesn’t know but everyone fought back vaillantly, very close to victory. Rika is surprised, and Hanyuu confirms, saying they will do all together. Rika is surprised that Keiichi and everyone did, and so she is fustrated that she can’t remember of this…
Hanyuu speculates it is maybe because their powers are nearly depleted, and so it should be the last world. Rika comments how she felt weird that not only Hanyuu materialized herself, but she also makes sort she becomes a transfer student, and so this world is quite peculiar. Hanyuu is completely resolute and says they can vainquish Takano if they gather help from everyone. Rika is impressed and comments how Hanyuu is oustanding, while she was rather an observer before.

Akasaka is discussing with Ooishi, Kuma and the coroner, claiming Rika will be killed. Of course, they are a bit skeptical, and Akasaka is fine with that, and he keeps going with his explanations.
Ooishi is still resolute to resolve these cases since he is retiring this year, so any clue is welcomed, but he is clueless why Rika would know about all of this.
Akasaka is still bitter, because they could prevent the tragedies if he took seriously her warning five years ago. And so, he wishes to save Rika at least, this is the reason why he took vacation and came in Hinamizawa. The coroner wonders how his past investigation is related with Rika’s foretelling. However, Akasaka can’t say that yet, and so he is asking their assistance. Ooishi is fine with that and joins the boat.

At morning, the three chibiko meet with Irie at school, and he is quite in his MAID HEAVEN mode. Rika then asks him to talk a bit privately.

Rika was able to get information about the extermination plan if something happen to her, known as “emergency manual #34”. Irie was hesitant to tell her this before, due its gruesome nature. He explains that if the queen carrier dies, the plan will be executed: all villagers will be disposed of before any outbreak. The village will be sealed, and people will be killed with poison or other similar means.
Rika understands and asks Irie how this point would benefit Takano. Irie is completely taken off guard, and Rika repeats in another manner, asking if there is any reason for her to kill Rika. Irie can’t believe this, since the research will be closed in three years, and Takano should be the one who would want to resolve the whole mystery of the syndrome. Rika argues the fact that the research will cease in three years, so it might make her want to throw over the tables. Irie is first speechless then admits it is quite possible. He is still very hesistant, while Rika seems to know what she wanted.

Rika leaves the room and everyone was waiting for her. Rika lies and claims they were just talking about manga etc. Rika “admits” she is currently drawing a manga and she needed help about the plot. Satoko was clueless while Mion offers her help. Rika accepts it gladly.
Rika used the true story, disguised as a “manga story”, and club members are thinking about it. Rika says she can’t figure how the “villain” could remain consistent. Mion thinks it is quite trivial and she believes in such story, the obliteration of the village might benefit someone. She explains on the blackboard what it would happen: considering the scale of the massacre, a scapegoat is obviously required. Mion figures out that in such plan, a faction dispute would be the reason, and one might wish the downfall of their opponent with such scandale.
Keiichi concludes that if such organization exists, it wouldn’t be surprising to witness many backstabbing, sabotages etc. Rika wonders how the “girl” can fight such thing, and Mion thinks she needs friends/allies who are familiar with the terrain, weapon wielders and a trap crafter such like Satoko, she has chances to fight back.
Rika is determined and wants more help of this genre.

The mysterious woman is contacting Takano by phone, with “Nomura” as an alias. It looks like everything is sticking with their plan. If everything turns well, a new research facility should be etablished, leaded by Takano. For this, they need to shake the health minister with the danger of the syndrome. She then cuts the call, wishing her luck.
She then calls someone else, revealing her true name, Takagi. The real plan seems to go on without any incident, and if it succeeds, they will be able to create the downfall of the Koizumi’s faction, along with the chief cabinet secretary, being dismissed in the process.

I just noticed this, but in the anime Rika dies frequently. Then she comes back acting like nothing happened!

;3 Why do you keep calling Rika Fredrica, just because she is in her Fredrica voice doesn’t mean you should call her that.

  6. 6 klashikari December 6, 2008 at 9:49 am

That’s because it IS the case.
The personality that has transcended the loops IS Frederica. “Furude Rika” only exist in conjonction with that personality in few instances. That is explained in Saikoroshi-hen.

Of course we all know that Frederica as read from Katakana has more or less the same pronounciation as Furude Rika so in a certain way they remain one and the same right? Right?! Goodie.
