Umineko no Naku Koro ni Translation Patch: Third release, Episode 1 Complete!!!

As promised, we were finally able to get back our pace, and you didn’t have to wait more than a single week. Well, this time, you will be able to finish your first journey to the Golden Land!
Witch Hunt is proud to announce that the third patch for Umineko no Naku Koro ni is available!

The third patch covers Episode 1, Legend of the Golden Witch. You can get it with the following links (several mirrors):
[WH] Umineko 1 v1.0 22MB (rar file)

EDIT: Here are the patch for the demo and episode 3. Links are uploaded on Mediafire

There is an additional instruction with this patch: please do not overwrite the old patch if you were using it. Rather, please delete it and then install the v1.0. Worry not, the save states are not in the patch folder.

Please be sure to check the readme file as some specific points must be taken in account for the full use of the patch. (It has been updated, and a FAQ has been made for your convenience).
Also, remember this patch only works with Episode 2 (game). It does NOT work with episode 1.
Please remember that Episode 1 is INCLUDED in Episode 2

(just how it was for Higurashi), hence we are not skipping any episode at all. But the patch can only work with the second game, translation wise, it is about the first episode.

Please don’t hesitate to leave your feedbacks, comments, troubleshoots and so forth here!

Thanks everyone on the team for your hard work. 🙂 I look forward to playing the rest of Episode 1 during my downtime this school year.

That’s great, I just finished the first half and was really dying to know what was going to happen. Thanks so much for your work.

    Nice job.

    I read: “ONscripter coding 95%”.
The first episode isnt full completly yet? \:

  7. 7 klashikari August 23, 2008 at 4:35 pm

It is fully coomplete, however, the engine doesn’t have all effects because of Onscripter limitations.
Story wise etc, it is complete, just few effects like rain and warps that are not in the release.

  8. 8 Starfish August 23, 2008 at 4:46 pm

    Sad. \:

I wouldnt call that a 1.0 version then because its not really complete. But You’ll add it later someday, right?

  9. 9 klashikari August 24, 2008 at 1:54 am

1.0 is only related to translation. such effects are extremely minor and their absence don’t impair the enjoyement. That said, the person in charge of the onscripter is already working on it, but it won’t be fixable anytime soon, it will require usual update of onscripter.

I would hardly think that anyone would like us to postpone the patches because of mere side effects.

Will this work with episode 3? I know you keep saying it wont work on just episode 1, but episode 3 is out, so if it doesn’t work will there be a release of this for episode 3 as well?

  11. 11 atlantiza August 25, 2008 at 12:08 pm

Speaking of compatible episodes, I think I’ve said this before, but I downloaded my version of Umineko from 07th Expansion’s site a while ago. (Yes, they actually put a download of the game up on their site) This version would be Episode 1, and I have yet to encounter any problems since the first patch with the first two chapters. So I think it’s kind of… inaccurate, to say the least, that this patch ONLY works with Episode 2 and specifically say it does NOT work with Episode 1.

  12. 12 klashikari August 25, 2008 at 3:21 pm

we are currently very busy with episode 2 and 3 translations. That said, we will obviously make sure that the patch can work with episode 3 (and possibly the demo of episode 1)

    atlantiza :
Do not mistake Episode 1 with the demo.
As already explained in the AS thread and readme, the patch can be used. The issue is that with episode 1 game, it won’t work properly as the BGM directory is extremely different, which is why we don’t recommend episode 1 game, as playing the game without the BGM is simply a huge minus for the game itself.

the demo works more or less fine with the patch, but some menu won’t work properly due of this specific differences in structure.

  13. 13 atlantiza August 25, 2008 at 9:23 pm

I’m pretty sure it’s not a demo/promo version. I haven’t had a single problem with BGM as far as I can tell. I’ll try the Episode 1+2 version of the game, though, to see if there are any differences.

  14. 14 klashikari August 25, 2008 at 9:26 pm

The version on the official site IS considered as a demo. The episode 1 in there is complete, but it is solely considered as a “demo” as it won’t go past episode 1. There won’t be anything beyond this point as a freeware.

There isn’t any difference in BGM, but the demo has been made after Episode 2 release, hence why the structure is similar enough so the patch works vastly well with it.

OTOH, the original episode 1 game is extremely different and it is void of BGM with the patch.

Ok, thank you for your response. I’m glad the team is spending a lot of time on this. Keep up the good work 🙂

  16. 16 Vexe August 26, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Thanks a lot for the patch! A little question though…can we expect the next patch to come out early september? And how much will it translate, the whole or only a part of episode 2?

  17. 17 klashikari August 26, 2008 at 7:34 pm

An update in case it wasn’t seen: the demo and Episode 3 have their own patch now. Please check again the article, the links are there.

Vexe: We really cannot give a proper approximation, considering that it is highly dependant of how our translators are busy.
That said, it is very likely that we will provide a partial patch, pretty much like episode 1.

  18. 18 sterling01 August 30, 2008 at 11:47 am

@Vexe: As the person in charge of translating/editing episode 2…
I can say expect something by September

I recently found out about this game novel thing and searched the Internet for some way to play/read it. I found this site while searching. Just a quick question, do I need all three patches to play because I downloaded the first one and all the little screen you click was flash Witch Hunt 07th Expansion or whatever.

  20. 20 BlackAlmostRed October 25, 2009 at 3:51 am

@ZombieMesh: that same thing go on me.
i did even download it all but it still didn’t work.
