Why focus solely on the Yuri when you can have some Yaoi instead?
And with this, I think the premise of this series is pretty much set into stone. So what I though was going to be a good and unique series has now been degraded to just being medicore. Where did it all go wrong? Well part of the fault has to lie with the fact that the OP for this series has finally been shown…
Thoughts: And to be honest, the scenes within the OP doesn’t look so good…not for the future of the story anyway.
The selling point of this series is obviously how well it used the first two episodes to give the viewers such an mysterious and confusing feeling in where this series is headed to, but that cloud of mysteriousness has instantaneously been blown away ever since the OP theme started rolling and the scenes to come started running. Not that I think a series shouldn’t have an OP and ED, but what we have here basically shatters the viewer’s expectations of the series as it literally throws itself off course into the realm of genericness.
I think this is what me, and quite a lot of others feared most about this series. The progression from a “wow this is something new” feeling to a “oh god, I can see how this is going to end up /facepalm” is definitely quite off putting but this is because of how much brilliance I was willing to give this series. As things are now, you just can’t help but feel at least bit betrayed for having things turned down to a more predictable premise…
But looking at it at another angle, I don’t think this is all that bad. All that it takes is for some expectation readjustments and I believe that I will continue to enjoy this series for what it is. It is just a shame to me that there is a lot of potential lost from two episodes in but this certainly isn’t the worst thing to have happened.
Back onto the episode, it was rather slow moving and uneventful (unless you feel that the yuri, yaoi and anti evil knuckles are enough to be called eventful).
The story itself is still in flashback mode (here is hoping that the entire series isn’t flashback *glares at Tenjho Tenge*) and we see the “daily” happenings of Yomi and Kagura.
It seems like Kagura has become well adapted to being a hunter even at such a young age and has showed that she isn’t all talk. But what was annoying for me is that her naive personality has never changed…and will never if she ends up being dead after Yomi attacked her. I mean, come on! She stalled right in front of the enemy even knowing full well that they are already evil spirits. Ignoring the fact that this is endangering her life but also the life of her girlfriend. I just wanted to scream “what the heck is that!” to her and then kick her ass myself for being so stupid. It’s a good thing to have little tolerance for blatantly stupid people *rolleyes*
But that was basically the “main” point of this episode. Little growth development for Kagura and whatnot. Though I have also noted other interesting scenes in the screen caps below…
The other scene I think is worth mentioning is Yomi and Kagura’s relationship. From my perspective they look more like lovers than sisters, but if they still say so. The fanservice doesn’t annoy me though which is a good thing and I am rather pleased that they are keeping up with the quality of the animation. Their strong attachment seen here, it is hard to believe that Yomi could be so cold blooded to kill Kagura. I guess this is still one hooking point of the series for me, is to witness how things turned sour which lead to Yomi being “evil”. I still don’t believe that she is XD
One more thing to mention…Michael is AWESOME!!! 😀
(So is the Yaoi vibes I’m getting from this series, so Tales isn’t the “only” series this season with such blatant BL).
Screen caps and “wise guy” comments:
Pocky…one of the most overrate snacks ever
Bye bye, Kagura’s first kiss ^^
And somehow, the conversation degraded to some cheap hentai script
He is only human…;___;
Yes papa?
OH SHI!!!!…Run Sakuraba, run!!
A monster taken straight out of the war of the worlds
“Sorry, but we must silence you” 😦
I wonder what is in that jar…
Just a normal day for Kagura, keeping her sword tuned up and sharp…
…but some wacko shows up
“Iie~~~!! Hentaii!!”
Oh…nice to mee you too hentai san
Interestingly, he made Kagura’s sword and named it after himself…
I’m impressed by the service here, where is the smoke?
“Flattening demons at least 28 times”
Kotonoha would be proud of that
Such a weapon of torture
HOLY doomsday device! O.o
Ah, here is one thing I forgot to mention. Apparently ferret boy isn’t happy about his status with Yomi. I wish him a painful death ^^
Wait? she isn’t really going to fight with that, right?
ZOMG it works!
And throw in some rape for good measure
Listen to Yomi, she is smart
*facepalm* Naive twitch -______-
Gate of kickass
Kagura was let off lightly…she needs harsher punishment next time >.>
Well, it IS supposed to be a prequel to Ga-Rei the manga… Which means Kagura survives. Unless of course if the studio wants to take this fully into an Alternate Universe path.
That ain yaoi. That was awesome.
