Tales of Abyss episode 12 ~ Death glare Guy…

I never would have guessed that Guy could put on such a face O.o

(*Mumbles to self* So much work, so little time -_____-) *cough* well at least this episode was an improvement from last weeks but most of it was still pretty slow talking. Okay it wasn’t bad, just tedious that there is so much talk and not enough fight. Well thankfully the preview shows otherwise and lets just hope that it stays that way and not the false impression I got from the previous preview ^^’

Thoughts: Well I might as well start from the start. The group finds themselves being attacked pretty much from the word go and this time we have Guy turning darth on Luke’s ass. But shockingly even though you might not have put any of that fault on Guy for attacking Luke at all due to the curse slot from Sync and all, it seems like that curse slot is nothing but a tool which releases a person’s surpressed feelings…why does this remind me of some gem from some other series. Well anyway it turns out that Luke does have some strong feelings to kill Luke (I am not all surprised by that) hidden some where deep down in him which he soon revealed to everyone.

Oh and the fight was alright, Luke got injured and Sync was shot out of the tree like a bird. But a moment of silence to the innocent tree who was mercilessly slashed in half by Largo…he is a tree murderer!

And so Jade revealed Guy’s true identity who turned out to be of Hon origin (the same Hon origin as Tear and Van if I remember correctly). It turns out that his entire family was destroyed by Luke’s family and in the past he was planning on getting revenge on the family which is why he became a servant there. He doesn’t seem to have the intention now to cause damage to Luke but it seems like his feelings for revenge still hasn’t completely died down yet hence why the curse slot was able to control him so entirely.

But for now he is still on Luke’s side and they renew their friendship when Luke unconditionally apologised for everything…I think I am beginning to see the down side to this new Luke…Oh and a rather nice scene between him and Tear…DO NOT WANT! *rolleyes*

Ion manages to remove the curse slot on Guy but that makes me wonder…why the heck he didn’t do that earlier? Still the confirmation that only a fon master can use the curse slots seems to suggest that there are more of them like him out there. It isn’t actually explained whether there exists only one fon master at any time but that is what I have been led to believe. Though by now it should be damn obvious that Sync is a clone of Ion or something, come on, how can you NOT come to such a conclusion when it has been thrown at you so many times.

The gang then meets with king gold pika and they talk about the situation with St Binah blah blah blah blah.

It seems like the king doesn’t plan on saving the piece of land due to the tention building up between the two kingdoms. It is reasonable that they have come to the conclusion that this may be a trap to lure their troops to their deaths if the land so happen to collapse at the time they are trying to evacuate the civilians. But I also sense some slight evilness in his intentions when he quickly changed from “I’m not really bothered about letting them go” to “please save our precious people” just as Luke put himself up to becoming a hero…something just seems out of place…

As for Luke himself I think he is trying too hard to put everything onto his own shoulders…I guess this is his way to repent but at this rate he will become so blinded by that that he will lose sight of what he really must do…in other words I can see him go kamikaze into some crazy situation where he clearly can’t win but if it is to save some lives…just like how he tired to jump onto the falling piece of land in this episode.

And so the rescue operation starts and ends in tears…unless the flying jet can somehow save all of the falling people (which I bet it…will?).

On a final note, Guy still has somethings he want to sort out much to Anise’s disappointment that her get rich quick schemes never work though I still can’t see a Guy and Anise pairing even if he becomes a count.

I think they were purposely dragging out the events to end this episode with such a cliffhanger instead of cramping the events as they have did with earlier episodes. I have to say, I’m a bit disappointed with this episode, but it seems everything will pick up again in episode 13 (THE WAR!).

The whole episode was really slow until the end, when St.Binah started falling and the jet comes flying in (Notice how similar the design is to the opening?). I wish I could tell you how it actually appeared in the game, but it’ll spoil (sort of anyway; likely spoilers for the next ep) so I’ll keep my mouth shut (just to say, I really dislike how it appeared in the game; preferred the anime ver.).

I kinda glad they cut to the chase and had the God-General fight instead of dragging out by having the group sneak into Theor Forest (which was pointless in my opinion; I had no idea why they had to sneak inside to just have a fight with the God-Generals).

Yes, that is the downside of this new Luke (At least he has faults; no one’s perfect), he will constantly be trying to help people to repent his actions and it does goes to the point of annoyance (I didn’t find it annoying; the old Luke was much less tolerable).

Guy’s past! Finally revealed! And that’s three nobles in the group! 😀 Sort of anyway.

A Guy/Anise pairing would hardly work really, for reasons that will be revealed soon.

I wished they actually properly introduced General Frings though; if they did, we’ll get to see some good forbidden love (not shonen-ai/yaoi) between him and another. *sigh* But I guess they had a good reason for not adding it.

    PS: Did you notice how many blonde characters they have? XD;

“What is this? he should have the status and power to just barge in with a group of friends”

I’m not sure whether you know this, but the Theor Forest is actually an enclosed forest with lots of Malkuth guards. The part which we see in the ep is just the entrance to the forest; the rest of the guards are inside.

Besides, even if he has the status, it could be anyone using his name/image, right? It’ll take too long to confirm his identity (calling up his sister).

And since they don’t trust the party, they might assume it’s Kimlascans trying to get to Grand Chokmah; which might start off the war or cause enough confusion to do so.

*Shrugs* They must have something for blondes 😄

Though I have to agree with the part about intoducing the generals…and I mean a proper introduction to their side of the story or at least more on their characters. I just hope that they don’t turn out to be cannon fodder type characters where their sole purpose are to be killed off :/

And I was being sarcastic with the Jade comment ^^’

    Must be xD

In the game, General Frings and General Cecille (Kimlasca’s general; she appeared in ep 6 or 7, when Luke goes back to Baticul) were introduced considerably well. There’s even a side quest that involves the two. I don’t think they’ll do it here, since the sidequest is quite long.

I guess that’s quite wishful to have a bit more focus on the generals since the game is way too long for 26 eps.

    Opps, sorry xD;;; -brick’d-

As for why Ion didn’t remove the cursed seal earlier, I think that might’ve been a mistake on Sunrise’s part because as far as I remember from the game, Ion didn’t see the curse slot till Sync actually activated it.

Yeah, Luke apologizes way too often and he’s trying too hard to atone for what he did, but I can’t him blame for that. He realizes that he was a pretty big jerk to everyone before Akzeriuth and it was his hyperresonance that destroyed it. Still, “I’m sorry” is definitely less annoying than “I’M THAN FRIGGIN’ AMBASSADOR!”

If you thought you hated Mohs now, get ready to completely loathe him next episode.
