SD Gundam G Generation G Wars On The Horizon

srwhotnews_fa_sdggw1

I can’t believe I missed this, but then again it doesn’t exactly seem like it’s been all that heavily promoted either.  I had often wondered why exactly SD Gundam G Generation Spirits which came out last year was U.C only and seemed so unpolished, while it’s predecessor SD Gundam G Generation F had every show and side story up to Turn A when it came out.  Now I know, and really I’m not surprised that it was another one of Bandai’s bait and switch marketing ploys.  Release a game that is really a neutered and watered down version of a game that you plan to release in the future and rush it out the door without really bothering to fine tune or balance the systems.

I so desperately want to express my disdain for this tactic right now, but I suppose I should just be psyched that a proper version of this generation of the SD Gundam G Generation series actually exists, and that it’s set to have so much stuff in it. More Gundam 0081 News At Last

Guess what, Gundam 0081 is apparently a PS3 game.  Yep, it looks like those scans showing a post OYW scenario that most people assumed were for a new TV series to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary were actually promotional art for a game called Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C 0081.  In a way this kind of makes sense to me since usually the RX-78 variants feature most prominetly in games such as with the RX-78-4 and RX-78-5 in the Thoroughbred scenario for Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space and the RX-78-6 Mudrock Gundam in Lost War Chronicles, both for the PS2.  Seeing as how this game appears to be the successor to Lost War Chronicles it only makes sense that the RX-78-7 would be the next suit in line to feature in a Gundam action game.  Well anyway here are the relevant Famitsu Scans: Continue reading ‘More Gundam 0081 News At Last’

The Future Of Resident Evil (Taking Out The Biohazardous Waste)

Leon Might Be Dying Here, But The Resident Evil Franchise Has Enjoyed A New Life In Recent Years.  It’s Up To Capcom To Keep It That Way In The Years T o Come….Starting Now

Today I finally got my hands on Resident Evil 5 and now it’s got me thinking about the history of the franchise as a whole.  A series of Survival Horror games that has things that people love about it, but also things they wish Capcom would do away with.  Resident Evil 4 was a massive revamp of the franchise as whole and fixed some of the most glaring issues it had had since it’s inception, but there is always room for improvement in anything, even in former Game of They Year contenders.  That is why I’m here tonight to explore the franchises cliches and tropes and to talk about what I think needs to go in the next game, stay the same, or god forbid even be brought back or never brought back from the former entries in the franchise. 車輪の国、向日葵の少女 – Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo – Country of Wheel, Girl of Sunflower

It was quite a chore to have proper good VN to read recently. Aside of Fortune Arterial and G senjou no Maou (and your mandatory Key fix, Little Busters! EX), there wasn’t anything that stellar recently (I’m so stuck in Hoshiuta for some reason… Aoyama Yukari perhaps…? OTZ).
So, thinking back how I enjoyed G Senjou that much, I thought giving a try to its old predecessor might be a nice experience (especially how it is considered as a classic on 2ch, and how Touka gave me an enormous description before).

And certainly, I wasn’t disappointed at all. So here comes a serious wall of text for a gem of the past, 車輪の国、向日葵の少女 (Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo – Country of Wheel, Girl of Sunflower), by Akabeisoft2.

SRT OG Saga: Towards The Western Frontier

Xiao-Mu Isn’t Slowing Down, And Neither Are Atlus And the SRT OG Saga

Initially I wasn’t going to say much about this, but since I’ve noticed the upswing in readership for this article with the news of the western release for SRT OG Saga: Endless Frontier I now feel compelled to say something about it.  First of all am I surprised that is being released by Atlus?  No, not really.  I figured that  they had probably retained the SRW license from releasing OG’s 1 and 2 a couple of years back or at the very least retained an interest in it (Extensive dubbing that OGS on PS2 would require aside of course) and this is exactly the type of game Atlus prefers to release.  It’s niche, in demand and well….contains a lot of fanservice which is one of Atlus’ things as of late.  Continue reading ‘SRT OG Saga: Towards The Western Frontier’

Final Fantasy: Home Of The Prodigy? (Part 2 – Final Fantasy IV)

If Final Fantasy II got it started then I’m pretty sure Final Fantasy IV soldified it.  Final Fantasy is the home of the child prodigy and once again I examine the evidence. Continue reading ‘Final Fantasy: Home Of The Prodigy? (Part 2 – Final Fantasy IV)’

Final Fantasy: Home Of The Prodigy? (Part 1 – Final Fantasy II)

Yeah so the Yoko vs. Yoko series has been cut short due to lack of interest and the fact that I got my point across already, but I have a new one now.

I’m sure everyone who hasn’t been living under a rock the past week has heard about and seen the Final Fantasy XIII.  It’s pretty hot news and has generated a lot of talk, but I’m not actually here tonight to gush about it, I’ve already done that elsewhere.  No tonight I’m here because upon seeing it I decided to look back a bit at the history of the franchise and it’s playable characters and found something that I’ve always sort of been aware of but have never really thought about too much.  Final Fantasy (and Square Enix in general really) really seems to be a fan of making younger characters look cool and efficient in every way and older characters look like either bafoons or well past whatever their prime was.

However I want to put that theory to the test to see if there actually is a correlation between youth and general usefulness and accomplishment in the characters of Final Fantasy, which is why I’m going to be looking at each of the characters in the franchise so far (starting with 2 and skipping 3 since it’s really the first game to have characters with actual character traits), measuring their worth against the age at which they managed to accomplish it, and seeing if the FF writers favour the young.  Also there will be wisecracking along the way.  Let’s go.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni: When the witch hunt cries…in joy

Behind this weird and obscure title (if we don’t take the last part of it in consideration) lies one of the most glorious and morale boosting (who am I kidding? More OVERLOAD) event we could ever had.
