When WE cried… Higurashi Kai Episode 12 cancelled…TEMPORARLY ! Aired on SUN TV on 9/24!

Okay… alright, *trying to keep my cool*

Apparently, Toukai TV decides to cancel the episode 12 of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, swapping it with some cooking show…
Yup, you read it right, School Days wasn’t the only victim. Now, Higurashi isn’t spared either.
As another update, around morning (GTM side) of the 20th september, KBS has also cancelled the episode 12
As the final update, around 2:30AM (japanese time) of 9/25, SUN TV airs higurashi kai 12. No longer we will have to cower in fear !
Here is the link to the summary of episode 12.

Last update:
– EDIT7: 9/24 6:28 PM GTM+2

Basically, it says :

Tonight’s broadcast of “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai” planned for 3:32 will be changed to “Pole Effect(?) ★ KING gourmet first star!”. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Now I’m wondering : What the hell!?
While i’m not exactly that surprised for School Days, because of the remote similarities with the axe murder case, I don’t get it with Higurashi, considering we are completely far from “girl hacking someone”. If it was about the first season, especially tsumihoroboshi, i would have to admit it, but this…

Well, it might be something to do in the episode 12 after all (but this is rather spoiler…) Granted, it is really far fetched…

Great, what a GREAT day…

oh yeah, by the way, here is the source
EDIT: no longer available… what the…?

I’m going to do some voodoo, hoping the other TV stations won’t do the same thing.
The next “air date” is the 22nd September (so, 21s, we, eastern otaku) around 2:30 in japan, for KBS.
It is written 21, but it is past midnight so, erm.
I won’t bet a lot of money on it though, since the incident happened in Kyoto…

– EDIT1: 9/20 3:49 PM GTM+2.
2 things:

  1. The official site, oyashirosama.com, announced Toukai TV decision. however, considering the margin between the announcement and the said airing time, there is a chance that the other TV stations won’t cancel it. (But it might fall as well, just like how it was for SD: a snowball effect)
Note that the site is HORRIBLY slow. It is probably because an angry mob is assaulting the site right now…
  2. Yahoo.jp had the curious and bad taste to speculate a possible way to relate the incident with higurashi, as seen in the title of this article. It roughly says “Is this axe murder related ? Higurashi broadcast discontinued“. And the article itself just announces the cancellation on Toukai TV, and a possible connection with higurashi.

I have a BAD feeling about this…

– EDIT2: 9/20 4:38 PM GTM+2
This picture creeps me out:

This basilly asks if games make people violent/murderers…
Mention of the 16 years old girl at the top left, and “Higurashi no Naku koro ni” as the game in question…
and the text :

山村での連続怪死事件がテーマ。
主人公の少女は親の離婚騒動がトラウマに。
を使って敵を殺していく。

The first red part is “divorce disturbance”. the other is “axe”.
Basically (translation from babelfish), this little quite talks about Rena in Tsumihoroboshi… Let’s not forget they skipped details (on purpose? dunno, it wouldn’t be that surprising)

The translation (babelfish with “decent” grammar fix) can be done as :
This game has a theme about continuous mysterious death incident in the moutain.
The protagonist is a girl who got a trauma from the choc of the divorce.
Using an axe, she is killing her enemies.

Better translation (Thanks, Supergrunch!) :
The game is about a series of mysterious deaths in a mountain village.
A young girl protagonist is suffering trauma from the divorce of her parents.
She uses a hatchet to kill her enemies.

You know what, journalist? PLAY THE FUCKING GAME.
You want this piece of shit of reportage? Alright, here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTie5DfE4FI
EDIT 9/23: this link works. Go ahead quickly before it isremoved by Youtube.

Happy fun time with medias !
Of course, they actually say this game cannot be named as the main cause of the girl’s actions. The issue is how they presented it, as the similarities are too big between the incident and the game. No matter how you present it, if you spill every “similarities” without actually say the rest (as the game has very few gore aspect, that is a huge peice of friendship, courage etc…), well… people will say “they say it isn’t necesseraly this game, but that’s the same! A girl with an axe, killing her enemies, that’s it!”. The damage has been already done like this.

No wonder why Tokai TV feared for their hide if they air a higurashi ep…

– EDIT3: 9/20 7:19 PM GTM+2
And now, another breaking news :
Canned dog report: Journalists going batshit about higurashi

Internet is for the best AND for the worst… Great…

– EDIT4: 9/21 2:08 PM GTM+2
As expected, KBSKyoto cancelled Higurashi Kai 12 as well. The show was swapped with some…huh “breath” thing?
Source and their scheldule.
The next chance is on SUN TV. It is schelduled for the 7/25.
I’m not exactly relieved…

– EDIT5: 9/22 0:07 AM GTM+2
Looks like things go downhill.
This news (if it is reliable enough) is kinda frightening. Why?
Because even the station (or another misinformation?) indicates “higurashi no naku koro ni kai” has this kind of violence.

By the grace of Aiur, we ARE NOT in the first season for what… more than a year? Even the slight glimpse of flashback of Tsumihoroboshi-hen in this season is really short and doesn’t show almost anything. (i’m not even sure if we can see the cleaver)
And how can people mistake a CLEAVER/BILLHOOK with an axe!? It is like comparing a spear with a katana… this is ridiculous. (Even a kitchen knife would have more similarity for Rena’s trademark cleaver than a plain axe).

The proportions of this incident are gigantic and beyond logic.
Frankly, I’m wondering what is the most severe/bizarre fact, you choose:

  1. A show, named “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai” is cancelled because its PREVIOUS season and its original game feature a girl wielding a cleaver. (skipping all the details about it is done because of some madness, how it is bad, how friends are helping each other, etc)
  2. The victim was a policeman, physically absuing her daughter, the culprit. We can also add the peculiar fact the man was communicating with another woman.
  3. The culprit used an AXE (how is it possible to begin with? I mean, how in the hell can you have such weapon in a house? even for fire incident, it is NOT something you would find anywhere else than with the firemen)
  4. The mother and the rest didn’t give crap of the girl’s plea

I mean… well…? What is the more striking issue here? The so called “violent show”, or how the initial situation was already silly? (nope, not criticizing anything, but the relation with the series is so far fetched it is stupid…)

– EDIT6: 9/24 5:03 AM GTM+2
I’m wondering if there isn’t any curse or something of that sort.
It has been reported that ANOTHER axe-your-father case…
English Source, Japanese Source

This is REALLY a bad timing, as it will no doubt reinforce the paranoid situation.

– EDIT7: 9/24 6:28 PM GTM+2
Rejoice, Comrades! SUN TV heard our plea (well dunno XD)! Higurashi Kai 12 has been aired !
Expect a summary or screencap block within few hours!

*prays that other people don’t cancel the show*

  5. 6 Hecman September 20, 2007 at 11:02 pm

    Say it ain’t so Klashikari!

Its all a lie or some kind of joke right? No… You wouldn’t lie to us. You seem to be a good person enough. Plus, the raw I got for episode 12 turned into a episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

So a 16 year old girl really killed her father, a police officer, with a axe. Saying she hated her father?

The media reponse is to blame violent video games and shows. Shows like School Days and Higurashi? Appropriate action gaving the situation to look responsible gaven the situation. Yes, standard procedure.

Only the justice system can fairly solve who right and wrong but the media don’t run along those lines. The media action is justified to safe face.

  6. 7 klashikari September 20, 2007 at 11:11 pm

personally, I don’t blame either the girl or the TV sations.
basically, i don’t think someone can blame her, considering we don’t have the picture of her situation, nor how far the truth is. (we got many “rumors” or facts hardly confirmed. Some sources state she wanted to be mangaka, but it is far fetched, and it looks like something added)

The TV station (Toukai TV only for the moment) didn’t have the choice i believe. This issue can burn them with lobby and various “outraged” party about video games and anime in general (much like the censor and other ban in US and EU for “things too violent/explicit”)

the real pain here is basically how the media are giving pressure and mass misinformation which lead to this chaotic state. Considering how shocking the incident is, It might be another blow for the “otaku” much like how Miyazaki case was.
Seriously, the problem is a sort of a spiral.

  7. 8 Oyashiro-Sama September 21, 2007 at 8:48 am

    私はこれを信じない! 私のボートがか。あるところ!

  8. 9 Dark-Pie September 21, 2007 at 4:24 pm

More importantly is there any chance of it coming back on air?

  9. 10 Hecman September 21, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Usually a month will pass before rumours die down. We can only wait and see what happens. She be needing a good lawyer if she wants out of this. Frankly, I don’t know how she can get out of this if she admits to the murder.

I believe TV stations can take a few fines and outrage from the public but if sponsors pull out thats trouble for them. Before that happens they’ll keep shows like Higurashi and School Days out the spot light till things cool down.

What do you mean by the Miyazaki’s case? He retired or something? Last movie I saw from him was Howl’s Moving Castle.

  10. 11 klashikari September 21, 2007 at 6:24 pm

The problem isn’t the “rumor”, but the mediatisation of this. If the incident generate enough “material”, it can last much longer than 1 month, especially if it isn’t concluded quickly in court.

As for Miyazaki, i’m talking about Miyazaki Tsutomu, the serial killer, who was portrayed as a “crazed otaku” while it was without a doubt, a “lie”, crafted by some tabloids.
But the harm was already done, and the Otaku were shafted big time.

of course, the scale is really different, but you can see the massinformation of japanese media isn’t something great.

  11. 12 Skyfall September 21, 2007 at 8:44 pm

This is yet another case of the mass media jumping at the opportunity for a ‘scoop’ and blowing it out of proportion without actually knowing what they talk about. Obviously, the reasons for murder are related to the situation in the girl’s family … but hey – it is more ‘interesting’ to blame the anime industry, even if the girl has no know connection to Higurashi.

Whats next ? Lets ban all films with violence ? Oh, lets get rid of murder mystery books while we are at it. The two (murder and anime) are not related, yet it gets a big deal made out of it. Baka bakashi >.>

  12. 13 Kaioshin Sama September 21, 2007 at 11:58 pm

I wouldn’ worry about the show being permenantly cancelled. The way fans are in Japan there’d be a riot in the streets causing even more of an uproar than just airing the episode would.

  13. 14 nvjinx September 22, 2007 at 1:10 am

Yeah, I’m sure the continuation will be aired sooner or later, but probably on a different channel or at a different time. Patience people, if an anime series is so fking serious business to you, maybe a little break isn’t that bad idea.

  14. 15 FlameStrike September 22, 2007 at 4:25 am

Damn idiot japanese media. Higurashi the 2nd season is about trust, friendship, working togheter to over come fate and stuff! WTF does that have to do with a girl with an axe? Rena is even super moe and has no intention of axeing anyone…. God stupid people mixing things up just to get attention.

  18. 19 Hecman September 23, 2007 at 4:49 am

It was raining pretty hard off and on thru out the night, and I wonder if that was a sign of things to come. When I came here and saw Higurashi been cancel that sure was a bad sign. Thought I don’t blame the rain, its part of the cycle after all.

Is there any good news? I want to see the show to the end. Are they really removing Higurashi permamently off the air? Or just till the case is settled?

  19. 20 sadakups September 23, 2007 at 9:08 am

I had enough ranting regarding this issue…

  20. 21 Ryuuguu Rena September 23, 2007 at 9:50 pm

coz rena killed a man she don’t really knows and hated them. and she protect her father with this, but this girl killed her own father , thats so horrible and after she sayd she hate her father isn’t it a Excuse for this!!

  21. 22 anonimo September 24, 2007 at 8:29 pm

coño I do not understand that coño has to do a Japanese series with a murder entindo that that is serious but equal they do not tenian that to cancel to higurachi better it cancels naruto shuipuden FUCK YOU!!!!!

  22. 23 AnimeSwan October 20, 2007 at 3:38 pm

    It just doesn’t make sense!

  23. 24 Yuki no naka de chi November 14, 2010 at 9:33 pm

How can any of this be right. I mean if I was to go and AXE someone to death I would NOT do it because someone on a TV show has done something very dissimilar before. No I would kill someone maybe because I was being abused by that person *cough*she had an evil father*cough* I think that now anything can be blamed on the internet or TV. ‘Oh no, someone justed axed their father to death, now lets think about this IRRATIONALLY it has to be because an anime has gore and murder in it. I know what we should do! We should blame the anime, get it taken off the TV and get all the later animes in the series CENSORED!’

I mean, worse things are shown on TV and they aren’t even anime gore. Do you see them being censored? No. They were showing Saw on TV the other day, was that censored? Nope. Life=screwed upiness and umineko was ruined. End of story.

Lifes apparently easier if we don’t look deeply into things. Just blame TV

    Rant rant rant!
