Hughes Curro: Male. Age 32. A veteran officer who leads the Phantom Sweep special forces unit charged with hunting for Zeon remnants. He has a bitter experience in which his unit was annihilated in the past.
Sherry Allison: Female. Age 24. She was serving as a test pilot but was assigned to the special forces unit as a replacement.
ZEON FORCES INVINCIBLE KNIGHTS
Erik Blanque (Blank): Male. Age 20. A young officer whose family is a distinguished family in the Principality of Zeon. He takes command of the “Invincible Knights” in order to execute a counterattack operation against the Earth Federation Forces.
Story: The time is Universal Century 0081. One year has passed since the war. Although the world was regaining order, small-scale battles continued in various places by the Zeon remnants who still continued to resist. During the situation, a veteran soldier of the Earth Federation Forces is appointed to a cleanup operation of the Zeon remnant forces. Feelings mix on the battlefield as the young Zeon officers advance their secret strategy for the revival of Zeon…

Well as always I was way off with my wild predictions, but then what else is new. Clean up operations? It could defnitely work. This is a period a lot of people including myself have been waiting to see covered for a while, the immediate post-OYW period. Of course the war couldn’t have just ended right then and there with the peace treaty and there were going to be some stragglers. Apparently it was worse then we ever thought though…..so much so that with this new continuity it appears Delaz was beaten to the punch by a full 2 years in trying to bring back the flag of Zeon.
Also with Katoki at the designs I feel pretty comfortable. I’ve always liked his designs better then Ookawara’s boxy units (including Wing Gundam) so I look forward to seeing what he comes up with. And that’s really all the info there is now since Newtype is pulling another “Buy the lateast issue (April) to find out what you need to know about the new Gundam series and we TOTALLY promise it will actually be there 😉 ) bit like they always do. I actually don’t actually expect to have anything more for you guys by April if you’ll note the sarcasm in my tone and how much I trust Kadokawa Shoten.
Also I’ve updated the Sora Kake Girl page up to episode 07 and will be getting back to Tytania soon enough.

Wants very much to pilot mobile suits and is too eager to prove his worth.FIXED.
Kidding aside, I’m excited as hell. Although the character designs are a bit soft and glossy/wet for my tastes (I prefer 08th/0083 angularity, or even CLAMP’s work in Gode Geass relative to the rounded and plushy Gundam 00 designs) – not that it’s bad.
Robotech did a novelization of the clean-ups of rogue Zentraedi, and is also treated comically in Macross 7 Encore and Macross Frontier ep 12. I want the Gundam treatment to be serious and I trust it’ll be so.

I can think of a few people who will be happy with this and who just can’t or won’t get into the more tech heavy shows like Gundam 00. This seems aimed at pacifying them…..maybe.
I’m so very glad to hear this news. I basically had a fangasm when I heard about it on /m/. RX-78-7 is easily the highlight of this newest project for me, and the possibility of RX-78-7 Gunpla is just so very tantalizing. Of course, I’m also extremely excited by the fact that this is happening in the (almost) immediate post war era. Now I’m just eager to see what some of the other MS will look like, whether they plan on going the route of freshening up older designs, or putting out new crazy Zeon suits.
@Amuro1X: I found out on animesuki, I don’t really care much for the /m/ atmosphere so I rarely visit, but I’m assuming they are excited too since a lot of them really seem to dislike the high tech nature of 00’s combat. I always sort of knew something like this was coming along though.
For me, on the one hand I am excited because this is an interesting period to cover, but on the other I kind of would have liked to see something a little more distant from the OYW which seems to get all of the animation productions nowadays. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

/m/ is just being /m/ about it. 80% trollage. Most of them predict that Sherry will go back to the kitchen halfway through, blah-blah. Ugh.
However, I can’t unsee some of the comparisons they made for the character designs. Hughes = Keith Anyan, Erik = Gamlin Kizaki, and Sherry = Cecily Fairchild. Speaking for myself, I dig the modern look and can’t wait to see these designs animated.
The biggest question in my mind would be: What is Erik piloting?
@Schneider: Cecily Fairchild has brighter hair that almost looks like it’s on fire, but if you want to have a really odd comparison, a few of people on Animesuki have said that Sherry looks like Shirley Fenette.
so are they back to fire boosters again instead of gn drive?
@Tommy: No. I guess my title was a little ambiguous, but this is just the next Gundam series, not a sequel to Gundam 00 within the same timeline. It’s going to be U.C which means it’ll be verniers.
The choice of protagonist made me shat brix: a 32 year old veteran? That’s just too awesome.
Well reminds me more back in Gundam Seed about the start.

Btw i loved Gundam 00 and i had hoped they’d continue into a season 3 but i know now thats not the case.. I really do hope they stray away from continuing UC as i’ve seen “enough” of it and was feeling that the alternate timelines were really starting to take off after 00.
Man i’d just be happy man tonight if i could find a dubbed version of Awakening.
Here’s to hoping the next one will have a nice tech heavy spin to it. I’m never a fan of when tech/mecha heavy stories skimp on technical details. I just hope it also avoids the disgustingly soppy and horrifically cheesy ending that Gundam 00-S2, Awakening of the Trail Blazer and Seed:Destiny had…
