Tales of Abyss episode 15 ~ Natalia strikes back

Well isn’t that the truth

Yea right on Natalia, you should have done this earlier. Now this is what I wanted to see; the gang sticking their opinions into that cold hearted bastard of a father, sheesh ^^’

Thoughts: So after Luke made a stupid comment as the end of the previous episode concerning Tear, I was actually surprised that he came up with the whole idea of going back into hell and try to persuade the king to stop being Mohs’ bitch and to think for himself. Or was it that Luke just happened to follow his path of redemption and somehow just landed on the correct decision without much real thought on it *shrugs*

And so the whole episode was pretty much this act plus the sighing of a new peace treaty. The gang did pretty well in telling the king was an idiot he is to break his bond with Natalia without much thought and it ends relatively well and simple, heck even Ion did something useful for once for snapping back at Mohs making me laugh quite a bit.

Natalia continued to gain more moe points as she tell her father her true and purest thoughts then breaking down into tears. Damn right that nothing hurts more than your own parent rejecting you as their offspring and the meaning behind those tears held so much more than the words being said. This was a great “arc” for Natalia development but I am personally still egarly awaiting for Tear side of the story now after waiting for so long. But with that being said I am still happy to see Natalia getting some spotlight and the plus came about when Asch showed up and gave her compassion. Now the inner fanboy in me wants to ship for Asch x Natalia (but at the same time Guy x Natalia…oh the dilemna ^^’).

Asch really isn’t that bad of a guy…he is just misunderstood and was terribly unlucky…damn you Van!

Speaking of Van, the funniest thing came about near the end of the episode when both kingdoms were signing the newly forged peace treaty. Guy suddenly pulls his sword out and threatens the King of Kimlasca to tell the truth but after some pushing back and forth the REAL truth is revealed and comes back to the king on the other side and Jade. Seems like the real reason behind the destruction of Hod was because there were important test data there concerning Fomicry which Jade had no choice but to purge the continent. Though this then led back to a single test subject who was able to produce hyperresonance and guess who that person is…why Van of course (and once this was revealed Luke was left with a floppy jaw as might expect).

But with this I think Guy can finally lay rest to his past and look forward to the future. I wonder what will happen in the next adventure and what new stories will be revealed. There seems like there will be lots of fighting according to the preview but then it just means that Tear’s story will have to wait even longer (woe is me ;___; ).

That Asch x Natalia scene has to be one of my favorites from the game. The little speech is so touching, and it really brings out the little sap Asch was before his life went down the drain. It makes me love the pairing.

The whole peace treaty scene was pretty surprising in the game too. Of all people to go and say “Wait, it was us”, we get Peony…who doesn’t look at all menacing and is second to only Ion in trying to reach world piece. Even though it isn’t his fault, it was still unexpected.

The whole “Jade is a genius” thing is pretty hard to conceive when I keep forgetting that the guy is 35. He’d have been 19 or so when Hod fell, so he must have gotten straight to developing fomicry as soon as the Curtiss family adopted him to move that fast from basic item copying to researching something that would warrant the destruction of Hod if discovered…*sigh* His old bones indeed.

Also, Luke’s “WTF” spiral looked like it was one of those budget-saving scenes. It was quite amusing too.

To me, there are two reason why really don’t delve into Tear’s character as much as the others:

    1) Kinda like Jade, she takes everything like a champ, which is what we should expect from Tear. She’s strong-willed and tries to make sure everything proceeds smoothly, not letting her emotions get in the way. One particular scene we’ll probably see next week is the scene where everyone is down and it’s Tear who tells it straight that no matter how much they regret everything that has happened, they can do nothing but move forward.

    2) She does not hold any secret nor does she have any big agendas. Really the only things pertaining her character in the plot are that Van, her brother, is the villain, Mohs, her superior, is an asshole, and Legretta, her mentor, is part of Van’s team, but all of that is in the open. Outside of that little glimpse of her reacting to the passage rings, she has no hidden secrets unlike the rest of the party. While she does hide a few things (her attraction cute things, her reaction to the passage rings, and some of her own personal feelings), making her this way does make her seem a lot more honest compared to the other characters.

Yeah, the idea seemed like suicide, but I guess he felt that it was better for the two kingdoms to realize what was going to happen. Plus, I think that part of it was to also get the King to stop being Mohs’ bitch and accept Natalia again as his daughter.

As for the LukexTear scene, I definitely like how it came off more casually. It didn’t seem like she was talking down to him, but rather coming out straight and telling Luke that no matter how much he regrets his existence for ruining Asch’s life, he can’t look back on what happened, but rather what he can do now.

And as for Luke’s spiral into darkness, that was pretty unnecessary. In the game, he was definitely shocked but not enough for something like that.

Oh and if you watched that skit where Anise gets Luke to call her “Anise-sama”, here’s the skit where Luke gets his revenge:

Oh right, and next week, we’ll finally get some action.

Yeah. Next week there’s going to be lots of fighting

Yeah charging back into a place that tried to kill you off did seem a bit suicidal to me. I mean kind of wastes the effort of everyone to get you out if your just going to walk right back in. Kind of forget Ion actually has some authority :). Did something useful this time around.

Honestly never really thought about GuyxNatalia so routing for the Asch side has been pretty easy. Asch can show his good side when the time calls for it. Especially when it is just Natalia. Has been waiting for years for someone to remember that promise made back then. Definitely still cares about her, but also has things he needs to deal with first.

Sure it was to get information but think she and Jade will be keeping an eye on Guy. The guy who first lets Van walk away to continue his terror and then is a step away from going on a ruler killing spree. Jade at least isn’t like Luke in that the second Guy talks about not trusting him gets an instant response “Of course I trust you.” Though honestly don’t see Guy doing anything crazy. Just figure that stunt can’t get shrugged off so quickly.

Still have to love how so many had a hand in Hod going down. That place never had a chance :). The trail of blame can really just spiral out of control when you think about it. If the Score told them to act then you can blame Yulia or how about Ion and Daath who go around reading it for people? To save time might as well go with Van’s idea and kill everyone since that should get those responsible. With Akzeriuth as evidence assume just dropping the Outer Lands would be fatal.

Anyways should be some good fighting next week. I mean you can’t seriously expect Van to sit around while they try to stop his plans. He’s not a villain for nothing after all.
